Do You Look Like a Woman of God?
How can you look like a woman of God? The bible tells us in Romans 12:1-2 not to be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Basically, we live in the world but we are not of the world. One thing I think a lot of us miss when we look at this scripture is that not only do the things we do have to change, the way we look has to change as well.
I have always had a love for fashion. I like putting different looks together and trying out different styles. After I got saved, I realized that my wardrobe needed to change completely. Of course I had to get rid of the obvious mini skirts and short shorts. But what about the tight jeans and low cut tops? Yes those had to go as well.
When put your wardrobe side by side with a wardrobe from the world, you should be able to see a difference. I have noticed that the Christian singers today look like the secular ones. They are wearing low cut tops, spaghetti straps and everything else that the world says is “in”. Where is God? 1 Timothy 2:9 says ”In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array”. We do have to look at this scripture in context with today’s time. But it still means the same thing. The key words here are “Modest Apparel”. The fashion offered in today’s stores are anything but modest. Everything is geared to look sexy. This is unfortunate for those of us that like to shop. We have a choice. We can compromise and just wear whatever the world throws at us… or…we can take up our cross and strive to please God with our wardrobes.
Guess what, it is not just limited to shirts, skirt and pants. Some accessories are designed to look sexy as well. There are a lot of shoes out there that look like…prostitution and stripper shoes. They are also designed to look sexy. We need to avoid those styles too.
Ladies, lets take a moment and look through our closets. We shouldn’t have “church clothes”. If you have “church clothes” something is wrong. Ask yourself, “what would God say about my clothing?” Be honest and if it doesn’t line up with God’s word, throw it out. The blessing will be far greater than those skinny jeans.
Jesus gave his life for us…surely we can give up a few articles of clothing (that may go out of style next month anyway) for Him.
