Division in The Body of Christ
I think one of the saddest things in the church today is the lack of unity. People have fought for freedom and equality for years but one of the most segregated times of the week is Sunday morning. I’m not just talking about race either. I’m talking about denominations, gender and everything else that can be divided.
Reading the book of Acts yesterday, I noticed after Jesus gave the great commission and Peter and John started their ministries, when people gave their lives to Christ, it wasn’t a whole bunch of different denominations. In fact Acts 2:44 says ”And all that believed were together, and had all things common;”. This meant that they all believed in one thing. That was that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and He rose and ascended into Heaven. Verse 46 and 47 says that the believers ate together, worshiped in the temple together and they were glad about it. God then blessed them and more people got saved. If we can get past petty differences we can spend more time focusing on what God wants us to do. Preach His gospel and win souls for Him.
I’m not knocking anybody’s denomination or anything and I don’t know a whole lot about any of them. However, I think it is too much division in this area. On top of that, each denomination has it’s own set of rules and regulations. One denomination might say that women can’t wear pants, another may say that we can’t dance before God in church and the list goes on and on. 1 Corinthians 1:10 says “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” This means that we all need to preach God’s doctrine and nothing else. Whatever His Word says should be final. We have to rightly divide the Word and not pick a couple of scriptures and focus on them. We need to be on one accord. Honestly, if I hadn’t grown up in church and knew about God before I gave my life completely to Him, I would be confused. Guess what…God is not the author of confusion.
Something else I would like to speak on is how people focus on the various apostles in the bible. Let’s call them “Bible Groupies”. They spend more talking about what this apostle and that apostle said and hardly mention Jesus at all. Just because they are in the Bible doesn’t put them higher than us. 1 Corinthians 1:13 says, ”Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?” (1 Corinthians 1:10-13) The only one that needs to be lifted up is Jesus. His doctrine is the only one that needs to be preached.
Jesus said in Matthew 12:25 that a house divided against itself can not stand. If we are all apart of the body of Christ, how can we function as one body if one area is trying to do one thing and another area is trying to do another.
Let’s unite in Christ to spread the Gospel. When Jesus comes back, we want to have all of our wrinkles ironed out and all of our spots removed.Posted under Bible by admin
