The New You

The New You
I’m sure many of you have seen the makeover shows where they do a split screen and show what the person looked like before and after their make over. I often vision myself with the same split screen but with a spiritual makeover. My spiritual self looks totally different than the way it looked before receiving Christ. It is like I am a brand new person.
Ephesians 4:17-24 tells us all about become a new man in Christ.  Verses 17 and 18 says that we no longer operate the way the world operates because we have light shed on our understanding. We are no longer alienated from God because we know the truth. It is very comforting to know that we are not  cut off from God now that we have received Him into our lives. Verse 19 of the amplified Bible goes on the explain why we are different from the world. It says “In their spiritual apathy they have become callous and past feeling and reckless and have abandoned themselves [a prey] to unbridled sensuality, eager and greedy to indulge in every form of impurity [that their depraved desires may suggest and demand]”. The world seems to have a false perception of freedom and happiness. The worlds will tell us to live it up and do what we want. The world encourages us to live by our own rules and give in to lust and greed. However, we know that true freedom only comes from God. It only comes from living truly for Him. True happiness can only be found in God. Anything else is just an illusion the enemy has created to keep us in the bondage of sin.
Verse 22-23 of this scripture deliberately tells us to strip ourselves of the ways of the world and be renew in our minds. In other words, we are to take off the old look and get a new look. Many times we try to stop the bad habits we have acquired while we were in the world. No matter how hard we try, we can’t seem to overcome these bad habits. That is because we are trying to do them in our own strength. We are not relying on God to renew us. We will never be totally renewed and delivered until we ask God to renew us.
If you are struggling with something, ask God to change you. God is the only one that can give your spiritual self a real true makeover.
“Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.”
~Psalms 51:9-12.
