Following To The Narrow Gate Pt 1 of 2

Doesn’t it seem as if the world is always searching for “the next big thing”? We can look at the previous decades throughout history, and see what was popular. We know that the 70′s were marked with bell bottoms and polyester suits and the 80′s were stamped with jerry curls and leg warmers. This is just to name a few.  Someone will come along, declare one thing as a trend, and people will follow until another comes along and names a new trend. Things weren’t much different during Bible times.

In Luke 13:23 someone asked Jesus were there few who were saved. I am not sure whether this person was asking if there were a lot of people or a little that were saved but, based on the answer that Jesus gave, it tells me that the person was trying to find out if being saved was popular at that time. Jesus said “Strive to enter in by the narrow door: for many, I say unto you, shall seek to enter in, and shall not be able.” Jesus didn’t say yes or no to this question. He simply said to enter into the narrow gate and told them why. Why the narrow gate? Why not enter into the gate that is the most popular?

Matthew 7:13-14 gives us a description of what the narrow gate is. Verse 14 says “For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”  Unfortunately, the world we live in today doesn’t look at righteousness, and being holy as popular. Sin is glamorized to look fun and exciting, and righteousness has been portrayed as dull and boring.  As you may all know, it is a lie and it is deception.
