God Blesses Because of You Part 1 of 2
Did you know that your family can be blessed because you are right with God? God’s favor on us can have a domino affect and be spread to those around us, simply because we obey Him. I think it is wonderful that my decision to follow Christ can have a positive effect on those around me. What about you?
In Genesis 37:27-28, Joseph was sold to the Ishmaelites by the Midianite traders that pulled him out of the pit his brothers had put him in. Later on, in Genesis 39:1, we learn that he ended up in Egypt and was sold again to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh. Verse 2 says “The Lord was with Joseph, and he was successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian” Here, we see that God’s favor was on Joseph. I believe that God’s favor was on him from the beginning. His brothers wanted to kill him. But, his older brothers, Reuben and Judah, told them not to kill him (Genesis 37:21-27). Verse 3 says “And his master saw that God was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand” When we walk with God and obey Him, it shows. Because of God’s favor, Joesph was promoted to overseer of the house. Verse 5 says that God blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake. Everything in the house and in the field was blessed. It seems to me that there was segregation between Hebrews and Egyptians. Genesis 43:32 says “So they set him a place by themselves; because the Egyptians cold not eat food with the Hebrews, for that is an abomination to the Egyptians” This is more proof of God’s favor in action. Even though the Egyptians felt this way about Hebrews, Joseph, a Hebrew, was given even more authority than before.
