Just A Little Bit Part 2 of 2

Just A Little Bit Part 2 of 2

Song of Solomon 2:15 says “Catch us the little foxes. The little foxes spoil the vines. For our vines have tender grapes.” Sin doesn’t come with a label on it. It often sneaks up on us a little bit at a time. When we give foothold to what we consider to be little sins, they grow and eventually choke out the good fruit. It’s like allowing a little mold to grow in a small area. If it is not taken care of, it will eventually become a bigger problem. The enemy doesn’t bust the door down. He’s subtle and at times, hardly noticeable at all. The smallest crack in our lives can be big enough for him to squeeze in. Before we know it, we are need of deliverance from a stronghold we didn’t even see taking root.

One thing I absolutely love about God’s word is that not only does He tell us what is right and what is wrong, He also tells us how to avoid the wrong so there won’t be a next time. 1 Corinthians 5:7 gives us a remedy for the “little leaven” in our “lumps”. It says “Therefore, purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our passover was sanctified for us.” Jesus said in John 15:1 that He is the true vine. The only way we can bear good fruit and keep that good fruit good is through Him. So, the only way to truly be purged and become new, is through Christ.

When we stay in God’s word and in prayer, we strengthen our spirit. This helps us to root out the little foxes. Before we know it, whenever we get ready to commit a “little sin” the Holy Spirit will quicken our hearts and convict us before we even get the chance to act upon our thought. We have to stay vigilant and guard our hearts, not giving the enemy any room to move in and steal what God has produced in us. If you have allowed “little sins” to overtake you, ask God to forgive you. In prayer, ask God for spiritual strength. Psalms 119:9 says “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.” So, spend time in God’s word as well. When we submit ourselves to God, we can then resist the devil and he will flee (James4:7).
