Walking In The Spirit Part 1 of 2
Upon hearing the phrase “walking in the spirit”, one may become intimidated and feel as though it is impossible. In fact, walking in the spirit is something that we are all capable of doing. God tells us in His word to walk in the spirit. We know that if it were not possible, than He would not tell us to do it.
Before I gave my life to Christ, my mother would tell me that I needed to walk in my calling, which was to sing gospel. At the time, I was singing secular music in clubs and living a life of sin. My excuse was that I wanted to get my life together first. Her response would then be “Well get it together, what is stopping you?” I knew that if I were to sing gospel music, I would have to live the life that I sang about. Galatians 5:16 was the remedy for my excuse. It says “I say then; Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh” . See, many times, we feel that we need to get rid of our mess before we can walk in the Spirit. I knew I couldn’t live a spiritual life if I was living a life of sin. It is true that one cannot live spiritual and carnal at the same time (Galatians 5:17). But, Galatians 5:16 is telling us that if we would walk in the spirit first, it is easier to not give in the desires of our flesh. I didn’t know that all I had to do was submit to Christ and He would work out the mess in me.
