A Woman of Vision
Today, women can partake of the same anointing and spirit of vision that Deborah had. God has called each and every one of us to a specific purpose. When I look at the life I lived before surrendering to the Lord, it is hard for me to think that God could use someone like me for anything. You may feel the same way. But remember that God uses the foolish things to confound the wise.(see 1 Corinthians 1:25-30) The one that seems the most unqualified is the one God will use the most. Allow the story of Deborah, to inspire you to continue to press toward your destiny.
Deborah
It doesn’t matter whether a leader is male or female when that person rules with the authority of the Almighty. Deborah had more political authority than any woman in the Bible, and she governed God’s people with a mother’s heart and a soldiers strength (see Judges 5:7; 4:6-9).
A Trusted counselor for the children of Israel, Debora’s gift made room for her (see Proverbs 18:16). She did not go looking for ways to exercise her leadership, but possessed the kind of godly wisdom that called the people to her. She sat patiently under a palm tree, fielding questions, mediating disputes, and bringing order and justice to the lives of a people miserably oppressed by the cruel Canaanite king, Jabin.
Deborah was also blessed with the gift that gives any leader an edge-she had the ability to hear, and the courage to act upon , the voice of God. When it was time for Israel to stand up to King Jabin, Deborah sent for Barak and reminded him of the word of the Lord, “Has not the Lord God of Israel commanded, ‘Go and deploy troops…and against you I will deploy Sisera…and I will deliver him into your hand’?”(Judges 4:6,7). Even with such a promise from God, Barak refused to go to war without Deborah; and she marched into the battle with him, revealing to him God’s strategy for victory.
Amid the fighting , the clamor of war thundered in her ears, while the voice of the Lord whispered to her spirit. And when the moment was right, she gave God’s instructions to Barak: “Up! For this is the day in which the Lord has delivered Sisera into your hand. Has not the Lord gone out before you?” (Judges 4:14). Thanks to her leadership, Israel won the war and escaped Jabin’s tyranny.
May God raise up women today with the prophetic voice, the discerning mind and the courageous heart of Deborah.
