Sharing Your Faith Part 2 of 2

Sharing Your Faith Part 2 of 2

In Philemon 4, it says “I thank God…”  this told me that we should remember to give thanks for others in our prayers. We can’t be selfish and only thank God for what He has done for us. 2 Thessalonians 1:3 says “We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting ,because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other.” This scripture gives us another example of one believer thanking God for others. We should not only thank God for the natural things He does such as bills being paid and so forth, we should thank God for the faith and love that is in others.

I believe that praying for others is a way of showing our love. When someone is real about something, they don’t always need an audience to see it. Praying for others is one way we show low love without an audience. We don’t even have to pray for the same people every time we pray. When we let the Spirit lead, He will tell us who we should pray for. In Matthew 6:5-7, Jesus gives us instructions on how we should pray. One thing that He points out is to not use vain repetitions. When we pray for others, it is important that we avoid legalistic and systematic prayers and just be genuine. I once heard someone say that God challenged them to ask Him for what they wanted in a few words as possible. When we pray for other, or for anything, we have to be ourselves when we go to God.

Let’s remember others when we spend our private time with God. When I studied on this topic, the Holy Spirit reminded me that others pray for me. I’m not suggesting that we return a favor by praying for others. However, we should always bear in mind how effective the prayers of others are in our lives. Just as their prayers are effective in our lives, our faith filled prayers will be effective in the lives of those we pray for.
