Our Attitudes Towards Money Part 3 of 3

Many times, we tend to put our trust in our jobs, the stock market, the economy and so forth. 1 John 5:21 says “Little children, keep yourselves from idols” An idol is not just a figure that someone may bow down to. It can be anything. When we begin to trust in things more than God, we are making those things idols. If we are depending on our jobs more than the One that gave us the job…God, we are then making that job an idol. This can block God from blessing us. If we begin to show Him that we put our trust n our stuff more than Him, why would He bless us with more? We can’t even trust Him with what we have.

1 Timothy 6:11-12 gives us the remedy for our attitudes toward money. Whether we have it or not. Verse 11 says “But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.” We should strive for the fruit of the Spirit not how to get money or what to spend it on once we get it. Verse 12 says “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses”  When we focus on the things of God, the financial blessings will follow. Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these thing will be added to you”

The bottom line is, we should not be consumed with our money and our “stuff”.  In one of my husband’s songs he says “There’s nothing wrong with having nice things as long as those things don’t take the place of the King” This is very true. Money in itself is not evil, it is the way we act and think concerning it that can become evil. Ladies, let’s check our attitudes concerning money. Ask God to reveal any negative attitudes that exist regarding money. After it has been brought to your attention, ask God to help you and give you a new mindset. We want to walk with a right attitude towards everything in life.
