Is Your Church Dead? Part 5 of 5

The final area that we can allow to die in our Christian walk is the area of studying the Word of God. We can’t just read it. We have to actually study it. God’s word is like our instruction manual to life. When some of us get new gadgets, we often cast the instructions to the side and learn the new gadget as we go. It’s not like that with the Word. When we study God’s word, it gets into our hearts. Remember when you first got saved? It seemed as though you couldn’t put the Bible down. You were amazed at how alive it became in your life and spirit. Now, we may read a chapter or two out of duty because we know it’s “the right thing to do”. It is vital to our spiritual well being that we don’t allow this area to lack.

Psalm 119:9 is one of my favorite scriptures because it gives us a remedy for all of the bad habits and foolishness we allow to overtake us. It says “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word” It is so simple. If you want to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord, simply obey His word. I believe that when we have God’s word in our hearts, the other areas of our Christian walk become stronger. 2 Timothy 2:15 tells us to study to show ourselves approved to God. So, we are not only studying God’s word to learn it and live righteously, we are also doing it to get approval from God.

Sometimes, life can deal us some low blows. But, we can’t get tired and allow any area of our Christian walk to die. Revelation 3:2 tells us to be watchful and strengthen the things that are ready to die. This tells me that we have to be on guard constantly. And keep the various areas of our spirituality in check. If we find that any area is not as it should be, we are to strengthen those areas. 1 Corinthians 15:58 tells us to be steadfast, immovable and always abounding in the work of the Lord. To be steadfast means to be fixed firmly or constant. We should be fixed firmly or constant in our Christian walk, keeping that same zeal we had in the beginning all the way to the end. We are fast approaching the finish line. We want to found blameless without spot or wrinkle (see 2 Peter 3:14). Ask God to reveal any areas in your Christian walk that are not pleasing to Him. Then, ask Him to help you improve in those areas. We can’t please God without God.

Are there any other areas not covered that we can let die during our Christian walk? How do you think we could strengthen those areas?
