The Release of The Holy Spirit Through Brokenness By Joy Dawson Pt 2 of 2

Some of God’s methods of answering these prayers are:

1. Spiritual surgery with an instant answer, where the veil is lifted from our spiritual vision and we experience divine revelation and deep conviction of our pride and/or unbelief. “ You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your countenance” (Ps. 90:8)
2. Spiritual surgery again, but where we have to wrestle with God with intense desire and persistent faith until He answers us, as He did Jacob (see Hos 12:4)
3. The drip fed method- a gradual process whereby God allows circumstances in our lives that show, by our wrong reactions to them, what is in our hearts. Perhaps we responded ungraciously in a difficult situation, and the Holy Spirit reminds us that “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).

Making brokenness a way of life releases fresh revelation. “In your light, we see light” (Ps. 36:9). It means: (a) We’ll be given fresh revelation of truth from God’s word; (b) We will have light on the pathway of life when we need directions from God; (c) Understanding will be given to us by God in relation to perplexing situations-the causes and purposes of them.

When the woman broke the alabaster flask of very costly oil in Simon the leper’s home, and poured it over Jesus’ head as an act of devotion to Him, she broke through the barrier of the of men. Jesus then broke through with His unique acclamation of approval of her spiritual insight and devotion-even saying she would be remembered where the gospel would be proclaimed. The fragrance of that oil would linger on Jesus and be sensed by everyone who came in contact with Him (see Mark 14:3-9).

When we live with a broken and contrite spirit, being known for what we are as God sees us, we experience 2 Corinthians 2:14: “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.”
