Given Too Much Power Part 1 of 2
So often on television, we see too much power given to the enemy. The devil is often portrayed a super powerful entity that’s invincible and unstoppable. This could be very believable to someone that doesn’t know the Word of God. This lack of knowledge could cause one to be very fearful of the enemy. The Word of God is will cause that fear to disintegrate, as it tells us the truth about the enemy and even gives us a way to fight him. All one has to do is simply study it and believe.
The word demon only appears in the entire Old Testament 4 times. In those four times, the word is referring to idols. Another word used is “spirits”. However, the context used was to describe negative spirits such as lying, heaviness, pride, etc. Perhaps this could be interchangeable with the word “demons”. During the Old Testament times, it seemed as though they didn’t really have a way of dealing with the enemy.
Jesus showed us how to deal with unclean spirits and demons. He also equipped us with what we need to deal with them as He did. Mark 16:17 says “And these signs will follow those who believe: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues”. So, right away we can see that the first thing Jesus gave us was the ability to do this by His name. We can not go to God in our sinful state. Since Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins, we can go to God through Jesus because He is the only one worthy. He is our mediator ( John 14:6 & 1 Timothy 2:5).
