Blessing The Lord At All Times Part 2 of 2
When David wrote Psalm 34:1, he was running for His life. The Psalm was written during the time when he had ran to Gath to get away from Saul. Afraid of the king of Gath, David pretended to be crazy so he could get away from there (see 1 Samuel 21:10-25). How can one write a Psalm like this during such a troublesome time? A lifestyle of praise and gratitude was being lived. When we live a lifestyle of gratitude, praising God will be like second nature to us.
I think living a lifestyle of gratitude and praise is like living a healthy physical life. It’s like exercising and eating healthy foods. When exercising, it can be hard and painful sometimes. Our muscles ache and we are out of breath, everything inside of us tells us to just give up. But we stick to it no matter how hard it gets. Eventually, it gets easier and our bodies begin to show the results of the hard work. When we go through a tough time, praising God can be hard. It may seem like our worlds are falling own around us and there is no way out. But praising God any way, strengthens our faith. Soon, it gets easier and our faith and spirit begin to show the fruit of our praises to God. The next situation that comes around will be much easier to handle because we have been “exercising”.
I want to live a lifestyle that praises God continually. I don’t want to just offer up a superficial “Thank You Jesus” when things go my way or only praise God when the mood is right. I will bless the Lord at all times and His praise shall continually be in my mouth. I encourage you to do the same.
