“Miss Fix It” Part 1 of 2
I would like to introduce you to someone I am sure you have come in contact with before. When you’ve run into her in times past, you didn’t know who she was. At first glance one would probably think she is a very smart woman, who’s quick on her feet and has the solution to most problems. Her name is Miss Fix It. Miss Fix It takes charge of the situation and makes quick decisions. She always has a remedy for the problem and very rarely needs help from anyone…even God (so she thinks). The problem with Miss Fix it is, she usually makes the problem worse. She can even add more problems on top of what is already wrong by trying to fix the situation herself. It’s not that she doesn’t believe God can fix the problem for her, it’s just that she’d rather do it herself than wait on God. Sometimes, she prays and asks God to fix the problem. But then, she doesn’t want to wait for Him and goes off to do her own thing…only to make the situation worse.
Does this sound familiar? I am sure many of us have been Miss Fix It in times past. I know I have. What happens what we jump ahead of God and try to fix things ourselves? We create more problems, making the situation worse. I am sure it’s not that we don’t believe God can fix the situation for us. Many times, we pray first. After we pray we only want to wait for a short while. After we don’t see results within our time frame, we go off to fix the issue ourselves. In Luke 11:5-10 Jesus tells a parable to show us how we should continue to ask, seek, and knock when we are in need. Verses 9 and 10 says “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”. This tells me that if I continue to ask God for whatever it is, I am in need of, no matter how long I have to ask, if I continue to ask Him, He will do it.
