Satan Has No Power Part 1 of 2
Quite often, movies and television will make satan look like he is very powerful and scary. In actuality, he is not powerful at all. In fact, Genesis 3:1 says that God created him. Revelation 12:7-9 describes how he was kicked out of Heaven. So, satan is just an unemployed cherub. We know that he only counterfeits what God creates. Knowing these things about him, why do we allow him to lie to us? Sometimes, we even believe those lies and allow them to make us feel defeated and condemned. The Holy Spirit showed me something very interesting in Matthew 4:1-11 in regards to dealing with the enemy.
In these scriptures, Jesus had just been baptized and and He was in the wilderness. During this time, the devil tried to tempt Jesus three times. However, all three times, Jesus countered these attacks with the word of God. Finally, in 10, He told satan to get away from Him. Guess what, satan went away. So, by this situation alone we know two things: (1) we can defeat the enemy using the word of God, and (2) we can just tell satan to go away. Yes, it is that simple, just resist him. James 4:7 says “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Luke’s account of the incident says the enemy departed from Jesus for a season (Luke 4:13). This tells us that the enemy is persistent and he will look for another opportunity to come in. But, James 4:7 not only tells us to resist the devil, it tells us to submit ourselves to God. By doing this, we remain prepared for every attack the enemy makes.
