Lets Not Get Distracted Part 2 of 2
What was the good portion? The good portion was the Word of God. Mary had chosen to sit and listen to Jesus rather than allow the various tasks to become a distraction. While reading this, I noticed that my bible gave Psalms 27:4 as a reference scripture to the “one thing” that Mary had chosen. It says “One thing have I desired of the LORD; that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in His temple.” Mary desired to dwell in the presence of the Lord and to seek Him. There is nothing wrong with serving. If you have committed yourself to the various departments of your church that is fine. The church needs dedicated people to help further the ministry. However, we must not get so caught up in these things that we forget what the real purpose is.
I like what Jesus said to His disciples in Mark 6:31, “And he said to them,”Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.”For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat” This can be looked at in the natural as they didn’t have time to eat food. But, this could also be looked at in the spiritual as well (first natural then spiritual -1 Corinthians 15:46). They were doing so many other things there was not time to be fed spiritually. Jesus was telling them to come away with Him and leave the hustle and bustle behind.
Ladies, between ministry, kids, family, work and whatever else may be on our plates, we must remember not to get distracted. Let’s slow down and take time to soak up what God is saying to us. Come away and spend some quiet time at His feet.Posted under Bible by admin
