Covering Our Youth Part 1 of 2
When we pray, we must remember to cover our youth in prayer. The cliched phrase “children are the future” is very true. However, someone else has recognized the truth in that statement as well, the devil. I believe that the enemy has launched an all out war attack on the youth today. He targets them just like he targets us, if not more. So many children are lost to gangs, drugs, and suicide. Sometimes, we can be so caught up in our own needs, that we forget the needs of those around us. The youth of today are exposed to so many things that they shouldn’t be exposed to. It is up to us to intercede for them in prayer.
In Luke 18:15-17, Jesus didn’t forget about the youth of that time. In verse 15, it says “And they were bringing unto him also their babes, that he should touch them: but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.” I think that was a little selfish on the disciples part. It was almost as if they were saying the children didn’t need to be blessed or prayed for. Unfortunately, many children and teenagers feel as if they don’t matter. They also feel that no one cares about them. This leaves them vulnerable to being deceived by the devil. Resulting in them falling into the very things that can destroy them.
In verse 16, Jesus corrected the disciples: “But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.” As adults, it is our jobs to let them know that we care for them, God cares for them even more. Jesus died on the cross for them as well.
