How Do We Strengthen Ourselves in The Lord? Part 2 of 2

Yesterday, we left off discussing how to strengthen ourselves in the Lord through the Word of God. It is so important that we have God’s Word in our hearts. Having the Word in our hearts can change the way we respond to our circumstances. We want to please God in all that we do. Even in the way we respond to trials. I heard Joyce Meyer say “The way we behave in the wilderness determines how long we are going to stay there.” If we respond to our situation with complaining, or constantly ask God why, we will stay in that trial or that test until we pass it and respond in a more godly manner.

The final way that we can strengthen ourselves in the Lord is through praise. Praise causes us to focus on God’s goodness. We then are no longer dwelling on the bad circumstances. It doesn’t matter what you praise God for. Just praise Him. I think the best thing to praise God for is for fixing the situation you are currently going through. This not only shifts our focus, but it activates our faith and shows God that we believe He will work the situation out for us. I believe that when you praise God, you feel better physically too. I remember while recording my album with my husband, I was having a tough time on a song. It began to affect my attitude. Just before we got ready to record another take, my husband says “SAY HALLELUJAH!” I said it. Then he says, “SAY JESUS!” I said that. After doing that a couple more times, I was smiling. I felt so much better.

When we go through things, we can’t forget that God loves us and will gladly take that problem off of our hands. We have to just give them to Him. Jesus told us to take His yoke because His yoke was easy. So trade your problems in for His easy yoke. Strengthen yourself in the Lord through prayer, the Word, and praise. Before you know it, you will have come out on the other side of the storm with a testimony that can help someone else overcome their circumstances.
