Waiting on The Lord Part 1 of 2
The last two posts discussed allowing things to happen in GOd’s timing and not our own. More often than not, God makes us wait for the fulfillment of His promises. Take a look at Abraham. God made him wait 25 years for the promise of a son. So, while we are waiting, what do we do? In this “Dear Friend” letter from my Bible, Alice Smith explains why God often makes us wait and what we should do while we wait.
Waiting on The Lord
By Alice Smith
Dear Friend,
Too often we fell stagnant and ineffective while waiting for the fulfillment of the promises of God. We need not get discouraged or yeild to passivity. THere are many appropriate ways to wait on the Lord.
- We should wait prayerfully on Him (see Ps. 25:1-3).
- In our prayerful attitude, we must wait expectantly, knowing that He hears our cries of intercession and in due time He will answer (see Ps. 31:24).
- And most of all, we should patiently wait for the Lord’s answer (see Ps. 37:7-9).
But, why does the Father make us wait sometimes for long periods of time for the answer? There are two reasons I believe He allows this to happen. First, the Lord asks us to wait in order for Him to develop our character. Like Abraham, we receive rich promises from the Lord, but the promise generally preceded the supply. So, we must wait. Remember, however, that periods of darkness often follow God’s promises. God develops our character in direct proportion to our willingness to wait for His timing. We should never try to help God fulfill His word.
