Seriously Seeking God Part 2 of 2
I believe that God will sometimes test our diligence. One way we may be tested is to be prompted by God to fast and pray. The test may come at a time when our flesh wants to do something else. I am sure the Lord has prompted some of you to fast when you had plans to pig out at dinner that day. How about when you really wanted to watch your favorite show on TV, and the Lord prompted you to turn it off and pray? These are all examples of our diligence being tested. How serious are we about seeking the Lord?
Another way our diligence may be tested in when God withhold answers from us. Will we give up on asking Him for what we really want? Or, will we keep asking, seeking and knocking until God answers us? This reminds me of the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15:21-28. She came to Jesus and asked Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. Verse 23 says that Jesus didn’t answer her. The woman then began to worship Jesus in verse 25 saying “Lord, help me!” This woman was hard working and persistent in seeking Jesus for His help. The end result was her daughter being healed right then and there. Just because we don’t get an answer from God right away doesn’t mean that we should give up in seeking Him. It certainly doesn’t mean that God is not listening or doesn’t care.
I realize that I am now being tested in my diligence. I have made it up in my mind that I am not going to stop asking, seeking and knocking (see Matthew 7:7-8). Don’t stop seeking God. No matter what it is you are desiring. Don’t even be afraid that what you want is not His will. You won’t know until you ask. So keep seeking God. And be hard working and persistent with Him.
