What Are You Thinking About Part 3 of 3

I mentioned in Part 1 of this post, that I didn’t know that I could control my thoughts. Another thing that I have come to learn is that I not only serve God with my actions, I serve Him with my mind as well. We cannot serve God with our minds if our minds aren’t focused on Him and right thoughts. Romans 12:1 talks about presenting ourselves to God as a living sacrifice. To do this, we have to present our entire self as a living sacrifice. This includes our minds. Again, how can we present our entire selves if our minds aren’t thinking the right thoughts?

My sister, thinking right thoughts is a habit we have to from. Just as we formed the habit of thinking wrong thoughts, we can form the habit of thinking right thoughts. When the devil attempts to feed us a wrong thought, we can kick it out and fill that space with a right thought. What are right thoughts? Philippians 4:8 gives us a list of right things to think about:

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever thingsare noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”

If a thought doesn’t line up with this “check list”, we shouldn’t allow it to stay in our minds. It also helps to surround ourselves with other believers that think positively. If bad communication corrupts good behavior (1 Corinthians 15:33), than good communication changes bad behavior (“Overcome evil with good” see Romans 12:21). It’s time we start talking back to the enemy rather than letting him do all of the talking. Jesus said “Get behind me satan” in Matthew 16:23,we can say it too.
