Understanding timing and being on time for commitments. Timing is important in both the spiritual and natural realm. The old saying is true “God is never late.” His timing may be confusing or even frustrating; but He is the One who know the beginning from the end, and He does all things according to His perfect plan. Do not move ahead of God or lag behind Him as you speak His word. Instead, learn to hear to the heartbeat of the Lord and walk to His rhythm.

Keeping your word. If you can’t be trusted to keep a promise, then how can you be trusted to receive a prophecy from God? At night, before you go to bed, ask the Lord to remind you of any forgotten commitments or broken promises, and make a note to yourself so you won’t forget again!

Proper handling of money. Prophetic leaders should pay their bills promptly, control their use of credit, and not live beyond their means. More importantly, they must never solicit funds as a prerequisite for giving a prophetic word from God. The gift of prophecy cannot be bought or sold, and those who engage in such activity fall into divination as did Balaam the seer (see Num 22-24: compare Acts 18-23).

Speaking the pure word from God. Receiving a pure prophetic word of God can be a powerful experience. It is beautiful to see a person’s life change by a word that come straight from the heart of God. But it is possible for the prophetic word to be “tainted.” In other words, only part of what the prophet is saying may actually come from God, while the rest may be distorted by sin, weakness, prejudices, and temptations. Pursue purity and holiness in every area of your life, and continue to walk tenderly in the fear of the Lord.
