Testing, Testing 123
Sometimes, God will give us instructions that will sound ridiculous to our natural minds. When this happens, I believe He is testing us to see if we can handle future blessings. Can we be obedient even though we don’t understand what’s going on? Will we obey the Lord even though the situation looks grim?
I though about this as I read John 21 the other day. The disciples had been out fishing all night but still hadn’t caught any fish. Verses 4 and 5 says that Jesus appear to the disciples and asked then had they caught anything. Not knowing it was Jesus, they answered “No”. John 21:6 says “And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.” After this, Peter realizes that it was Jesus talking to them. They then rushed to the shore to meet Him. Verse 9 says that when they got to the shore, they saw the fire with the fish and bread that Jesus had prepared for them. After reading verse 9, I realized that Jesus didn’t need them to catch the fish en-order to be fed. He had fish waiting for them. This could’ve been a test. Were the disciples going to be obedient even though they hadn’t caught anything after being on the water all night?
This situation also taught me that God sometimes teaches us how to fish rather than just feeding us for that day. If we got “insta-miracles” every time we prayed, we probably wouldn’t appreciate them as much. But when we have to go through trials and tribulations before receiving our breakthroughs, we seem to appreciate them more. We even tend to learn from our situations, preventing us from making the same mistakes.
My sister, sometimes, God’s instructions puzzle us. But, part of having faith is being able to trust what we don’t understand. When God is driving, we can just sit back and enjoy to ride.
