A Heart Transplant

A Heart Transplant

When we first give our lives to God, we are in need of a heart transplant. Matthew 5:8 says that God blesses those with pure hearts and they will see Him. So, we know by this that having a pure heart is attainable.

God describes the “transplant” process in Ezekiel 11:19-20. Verse 19 says “And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them a heart of flesh”. Jesus was sent to the world to cleanse us from our sins. It is by His grace and not our works that His blood cleanses us from sin. By grace, He also puts His Holy Spirit in us. This is what I believe the scripture means when it says that God will put a new spirit in us.

When we ask God to reveal and remove our impurities, we are basically asking God for a heart transplant. Verse 20 describes the results of our transplant. “That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.” Walking according to God’s statutes causes us to be blessed ( Psalm 1:1-3). This reveals why Jesus said in Matthew 5:8 that those with pure hearts are blessed.

Many of you are familiar with the process of purifying gold as it is a common example used to describe God purifying us. “The softest, most pliable, translucent and brightly shining gold is that which has had all of it’s impurities removed.”* Although purification is a process, it allows us to become more intimate with God. We then can be free to expose the “junk” that is down in us and ask God to remove it without shame or condemnation.

Exposing our hearts to God and asking Him for a transplant will cause us to be able to experience all that He has for us. Not only that, we will become more intimate with God.  So, let’s open up to God and allow Him to perform open heart surgery on us. Because a heart from God is better than a heart of stone.
