Settling In Part 2 of 2

I find it quite interesting that the world often tells us that the only way to feel at rest and at peace is to have complete control. However, I have learned that the only way to really feel true and total rest and peace to give God the control. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” So by this we know that if we turn to the Lord for the answers to whatever life heaps on us and makes us feel burdened, He will give us true rest.

Colossians 1:23 gives us another answer to the question of “How can we abide in the Lord?”. It says “if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard…” Another definition for the word abide is “withstand something: to endure or withstand something”  When abiding in the Lord, we don’t allow anything that is going on around us to move us because we have unpacked our bags and we are settled in. Any new problem that comes while we are abiding in the Lord is passed right up to Him.

Jesus said in John 15:7 “If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, you shall ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you”. This tells me that I can’t just abide in the Lord. He has to also abide in me. Whatever we are striving for won’t come unless we allow in Him into our lives fully and totally. I think the word of God is like fertilizer to our spiritual fruit. By applying it to our lives, the fruit of the spirit will begin to grow big, juicy and ripe.

Let’s move in, abide in the Holy Spirit, and allow Him to abide in us. By casting our cares, submitting to the will of God, and remaining steadfast in the faith, we can live peacefully and comfortably in our spiritual home. So, let’s settle in and enjoy our new home!
