Hear Him! Part 2 of 2

Hear Him! Part 2 of 2

Proverbs 10:19 starts out by saying  “In the multitude of words sin is not not lacking…” Usually, the first sin that we commit when we are talking a lot is gossip. Even if we are talking about someone because we are expressing the need to pray for them, we have to be careful of how we do that. The enemy will look for any little crack and opportunity that he can find to sneak in and entice us to sin. A lengthy conversation with a girlfriend is an opportunity waiting to happen. The end of Proverbs 10:19 gives us a way to avoid this. It says “But he who restrains his lips is wise”. It’s not that we can’t have conversations, we just have to remember that anything done in excess is sin. So, if we are spending too much time having a conversation (or two or three), there is something wrong.

Apparently, women had a problem with gossip and talking too much during the New Testament times as well. In 1 Timothy 5:11-14 talks about the actions of some of these women during this time. Some of them had begun to spend too much time going from house to house gossiping and chatting it up with each other. To help remedy this, they were advised to marry and have children so they could attend to their homes instead of attending to the business and happenings of others.

When we find that we have more time on our hands to talk and chit chat, we should pray and ask God to give us something else to do. I went through something similar a couple of months ago. There was a period when I had a lot of idle time on my hands. I didn’t have internet on my computer and there wasn’t very much I could do. I didn’t spend it on the phone, but I found myself playing games on the computer, and watching a lot of TV. I don’t like being idle. I am the type of person that likes to have things to do. So, I prayed and asked God to give me something to do. Eventually, He did. I was blessed with a sewing machine and I have begun to take the steps toward getting my clothing line off of the ground.

Ladies, there is nothing wrong with having conversations with our friends and family. But we have to be sure to know when to hang up the phone and walk away. Being a talker, I have asked God to help me with this. I invite you to do the same.
