What Are You Talking About? Part 1 of 2

I am sure you have heard the cliche stereotype that women are catty, two faced and gossipy. Unfortunately some women really are this way. What is even more unfortunate, is that there are Christian women that behave this way. When we allow ourselves to get caught up in gossip and backbiting, we don’t know who we hurt. I have heard about new Christians being discouraged and going back to the world after being hurt by this type of behavior. Jesus warned us of this type of offense in Mark 9:42, “And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.”

Psalms 12:1-3, talks not only about two faced behavior, it talks about Christians behaving this way.  ”Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men. They speak vanity every one with his neighbor: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.”.  Verse 3 goes on to tell us what happens to those that indulge in this type of behavior. “The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things” I believe when it says it will cut off all flattering lips it means you are cutting off blessings. Any doors God would have opened have now been shut.

There are other ways to be destructive with our mouths other than being two faced. It is by gossiping. This is something that I have to constantly keep my self in check with. Sometimes we may engage in gossip and not even know we have been deceived by the devil to do so. Proverbs 10:19 says “ In the multitude of words there lacketh not sin, but he that restraineth his lips is wise.” If you find yourself on the phone for long amounts of time and you are not talking about God, chances are you could be gossiping…
