Great Ambassadors Part 1 of 2
Imagine going to a foreign country as an ambassador for your nation. As a high ranking representative, everything you said and did would reflect on your country. This sounds like a pretty powerful and important job right? Did you know that as a Christian, you are an ambassador?
2 Corinthians 5:20 says “ Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.” One of dictionary.com ‘s definition for the word ambassador is ”a diplomatic official of the highest rank, sent by one sovereign or state to another as its resident representative” So, to be an ambassador for Christ means we are high ranking representatives. We go into the world representing everything He is.
In Matthew 5:14 Jesus said “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” He wasn’t just talking to pastors, teachers evangelists etc. He was talking to all of us. In fact, the pastors, teachers, evangelist etc, are just a small part the equation. Ephesians 4:11, 12 says that they train us and teach us to do the work of the ministry. So, we’re not exempt from ministry because we don’t have a “title”.
More often than not, when we hear the word “ministry” we think we have to have a congregation, a pulpit, or other things of that nature. Yes, having a ministry can mean having those things. But, as ambassadors of Christ, our lives also become our ministries. In Matthew 28:16-20, Jesus gave the great commission. In verse 19, He tells us to go to all of the nations and preach the gospel. Going to all of the nations doesn’t limit us to church, a congregation and a tax exempt status. Our jobs are our ministries, where we shop for our groceries are our ministries, and so on.
