What Happened To Those New Year’s Resolutions?

What Happened To Those New Year’s Resolutions?

Happy New Year!! I just want to stop and take a moment to thank and Praise God for letting me see a new year. If you’re reading this, that means God has allowed you to see a new year too. So, I praise God for you being here as well. (^_^)

It’s that time once again. The time that we reflect on last year. We may think about the mistakes that we’ve made, our accomplishments, and even our plans for the new year. One thing that is so cliche’ is the fact that so often, our New Year’s resolutions that were made last  year, went out of the window about a week after they were made. Many of you reading this may not have that problem. I am sure there are many of you out there that have stuck to it and got what you wanted to do accomplished. Praise God! I think it is wonderful  that you have  the “stick-to-it” in you and saw your resolutions through to the end. I on the other hand, eh, not so much.

One thing that I have learned this past year is that I never could accomplish my New Years resolutions because I was trying to do it on my own. I never once asked for God’s help. I went into it something full force but eventually ran out of steam and ground to a slow halt. I wasn’t being powered by God. Jesus said in Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” So, what ever it is that we are setting out to accomplish, whether it is a resolution or not, if we seek God’s help it can and will be done.

In reading this scripture, I also learned something else. We have to keep asking, keep seeking and keep knocking. I often ask God one time…wait…wait… and forget about it. I’m not persistent. The parable that Jesus told in Luke 11:5-8, when He talked about asking, seeking and knocking,  was all about being persistent with God.  When we ask for something, we can’t get off of it. Even our prayers require a  “stick- to- it” attitude.

This year, and the years to come, let’s keep asking seeking and knocking. I personally am tired of not accomplishing what I start out to because I give up or forget about it. I am challenging myself to stick to it. I invite you to do the same.

This is so wonderful that you mention seeking God first before making plans/decisions, and being persistent after we ask God for something. Its easy to get that confused with being a “buggaboo”, lol, but when you ask in the right spirit believing that God will do it, then its okay. God just wants a YES from us, and when he sees that we are expecting greatness through asking, seeking, and knocking, then he will answer our requests if they are in his will! I’m excited about that, lol! Happy New Year again to you!

    Nina,
Reading your comment made me think about something: By seeking God before we make plans or decisions can ensure our endeavors don’t turn into “works of the flesh”.Also…Continuing to seek God for whatever it is we are seeking Him for, shows our faith. Even though we haven’t seen the results of our prayers, we still believe God is able to do it b/c we are still seeking Him.
