Alone Time With The Lord Part 2 of 2
What Jesus said in Mark 6:31 often resonates with me when I think of spending quality time with God, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while”. Alone time with God will give us rest, which in turn will refresh us and revive us. It’s almost like putting ourselves on a spiritual charger to strengthen our “batteries”. Spending time with God will not only affect our inside, it will show on the outside as well. In the conclusion of “Being with Jesus” Jeri Hill, shares another example of a woman whose life reflects spending alone time with the Lord…
Another example was Helen. She was a little lady who could hardly walk, who worked at the Teen Challenge program where I was a student. Her knees were swollen, her ankles were weak , and she lived with agonizing arthritic pain. I remember her slowly walking down the hall. To me , it was as if she were gliding: the presence of God was all over her. She would come into the classroom, slip her little body into the chair , and begin teaching the Word of God. The Spirit of God infiltrated our group. Oftentimes, weeping would break out and we would find ourselves on our knees, going after God. I remember thinking, “Someday, I want to be like Sister Helen.”
You may ask, “What made the difference in these women’s lives?” The answer is clear. My mom spent time with Jesus-alone! And as for Sister Helen, one day I found her on her arthritic knees, in the presence of the Lord, worshiping all alone. For my mom and Sister Helen, spending time in sweet communion with Jesus was part of their daily routine.
My friend, spend time with Jesus, It will be said of you as it was said of the disciples, “She has been with the Lord.”
Keep going after God.
