The Good News is More Than Just Words Part 1 of 2

When we watch the news or read the newspaper, there is often video footage or photographs to illustrate the story that is being covered. Preaching the gospel is news as well. It is the good news of life, deliverance and freedom through Jesus Christ. Just as a TV news show shows the viewers footage of a particular story, we too have to “show” what the good news is all about. Mark 9:1-2 says, Jesus gave the disciples authority to cast out demons, and heal the sick. He also told them to go out and preach the gospel of the kingdom of God. Jesus not only told them to preach but gave them the ability to “show” their message.

There are so many people in the world desperately seeking answers, and so many voices claim to have those answers. There are many many different religions that claim to have to key to freedom and true happiness. However, God’s kingdom is the only one that is distinguished by showing the words being put into action. For example, I have never heard anyone stand up with a testimony that buddah healed them from cancer. Or the hindu god blessed them with the ability to pay their bills one month. I don’t even hear anyone healing the sick or casting out demons in the name of these gods. 1 Corinthians 2:4 says “and my speech, and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power”. Verse 5 goes on to say that this is done so that the faith would not be put into the wisdom of men, but in God’s power.
