Why When All Else Fails?
How many of you when going through something, try everything else and fail first before going to God? I know I’ve done it. Doesn’t it seem like we contradict ourselves though? We quote all of the scriptures about faith and we praise God and say we believe. But then, when we have problem, we do everything else first, burn ourselves out, and crawl to God asking for forgiveness for not trusting Him in the first place. I was thinking about this yesterday while reading.
I have often seen those TV shows where people have unknown illnesses. They try everything, go to different doctors and are diagnosed with different things. Then, finally they go to someone that figures out what is wrong with them and they are then cured. This is how we are when we try other solutions before going to God with our problems. I am sure you are all familiar with the story of the woman with the flow of blood in Mark 5:25-29. This woman had had this illness for thirty years. Verse 26 says “and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse–” This means she had tried everything and spent all of her money only for the problem to persist and become worse. I am sure she was her wits end. Jesus was her last resort. Verse 28 says “For she thought, “If I just touch His garments, I will get well.”” With faith in only touching Jesus’ clothing, she was made well.
Another example of trying everything else before God can be found in Daniel chapter 2. Nebuchadnezzar had a dream. He wanted that dream to be interpreted. Daniel 2:2 says “Then the king gave orders to call in the magicians, the conjurers, the sorcerers and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king.” Nebuchadnezzar got upset and gave orders to kill all of the wise men in Babylon because no one could tell him the dream. Then, Arioch the captain bodyguard, brought Daniel to Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel sought God for the interpretation and God told him what the dream meant.
When we try everything else before going to God, it shows a lack of faith. We are putting more faith in the things we are trying than we are putting in God. Did you know that when we are being tested by God and fail, we go through the test over and over again? My husband says that doing something repeatedly and expecting different results is insanity. So, why continue to try things that we know are not going to work in the first place? I also believe it is prideful. We are trusting in ourselves more than God. As harsh as it sounds, it is like we are saying “I can handle the situation better than God can”
God tells us in Isaiah 55:9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” He knows what is best for us. Let’s stop trying Him when all else fails. Let’s try Him first and be done with the problem.Posted under Bible by admin
