Christianity Is Not a Fad part 2 of 2
We also have to be careful that we don’t fall into various trends of idolatry unknowingly. Many times, we can get into trends not even knowing that they are not of God. One example can be found in the popularity of Yoga. To many, it is just a way to meditate and get fit. I thought this as well. When I first started working out and losing weight, I looked for some really good exercises and yoga seemed to be pretty popular. So I decided to try it out. Something inside of me just didn’t have a peace about it. I’m not trying to be super spiritual about exercising but, something just didn’t feel right. So, I decided to search it out online. I learned that it is derived from the Hindu religion. Once I discovered this, I stopped doing the yoga workouts. Now, before I begin a new workout, I read the synopsis to see if it is even yoga inspired. If it is, I don’t do the workout. There have been times, during a workout, the instructor will say that she will be using a move(s) from yoga. I stop what I am doing and I turn it off.
1 Peter 5:8 says to be sober and vigilant of the things of the enemy. We have to be watchful as to not take part in anything that goes against God. I believe the closer we get to the return of Christ, the more intense the spiritual war has and will become. The devil knows he is not going to win this war(see Matthew 8:28-29). But, he will try to get as many souls as he can. And by any means necessary. This means if he has to trick us into participating in rituals from other religions then so be it.
Getting back to the subject at hand, when we decide to follow Christ but then waiver for any reason, we are double minded. Jame 1:8 says that when we are double minded, we are unstable in all of our ways. The remedy for this is then found in James 4:8 “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you…” The closer we get to God, the more stable we become. No matter what the next new trend is, we will remain steadfast in our Christian walk. When have a closer relationship with the Lord, we don’t want to be anywhere else or do anything else but exalt Him. I believe the Holy Spirit quickened my heart and gave me an uneasiness about doing those yoga workouts. Even though it’s just working out, I don’t want to be like the Israelites were when they participated in the pagan rituals. So let’s worship the Lord will our whole hearts, minds and souls. And never let go.
