Freedom Found in Jesus Christ Part 1 of 2
While you are celebrating Independence Day today, I would like for you to take a moment to think about the freedom we have in Jesus Christ. Just as America fought against Great Britain in the Revolutionary War, and many died for independence, Jesus died on the cross for our freedom from sin, death, hell, and the grave. Jesus said in John 8:34 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Every one that commits sin is the bond-servant of sin.” While reading Exodus the other day, I thought about how Israel’s enslavement in Egypt was similar to our being enslaved to sin. John 8:35 says “And the bond-servant abides not in the house for ever: the son abides for ever” When we are in sin and slaves to sin, we can’t have the liberty of eternal life that Jesus gives us. Only when we surrender to Him, repent and give our lives to the Lord do we become sons and are able to have that liberty. Just as the Israelites were delivered from Egypt, we are delivered from sin by the blood of Jesus.
Have you ever noticed how a criminal is paranoid about being caught? It seems that where ever they go, they are always looking over their shoulder. When they finally do get caught or surrender to the police, some show relief. This is because they were in bondage to their crimes. Once they are caught, although they have to be punished for the crime, it is still as if they are freed from the paranoia. It is the almost same for us when we give our lives to Christ. When we give our lives to Christ, we surrender almost like when a criminal surrenders. After repenting and asking the Lord for forgiveness, our sins are erased. This is like having our criminal records expunged.Posted under Bible by admin
