Here are a few helpful tips on how to ease your spring fever…

Color- The upcoming seasons will see a lot of pastel and muted colors. Mix a few into your look by wearing a pair of pastel pants with a cozy sweater. (pictured below)

Layering- Layer a sweater, cardigan, or blazer over your favorite spring top. Doing this allows you to wear your favorite warm weather clothing while staying toasty and warm. (Pictured below)

Peep Toe Booties- Peep toe booties have been a huge trend this past fall and winter season. A cute pair of peep toe booties is a great way to show your toes but not show your toes. Try styling them with thin socks or tights. (Pictured below)

Dresses and Skirts- Nothing screams spring more than a cute dress or skirt. A pair of tights with your dress and a cozy sweater with your maxi skirts will help ease that spring fever. (Pictured below)

Florals- Floral prints will make an encore appearance this spring. Try a floral print bag, skirt or blazer.

Runways, streets, and fashion blogs are seeing a variety of coats this season. Here are a few of those styles and some tips on how to work them into your wardrobe.

Blanket Coats

No doubt snuggling in a thick blanket is one of the best ways to stay warm during the winter. I think turning them into coats was a fabulous idea. This season blanket coats seem to be everywhere. You can spot them a mile away as their names are self explanatory.

- Style a blanket coat with a sweater, jeans and boots for a cozy casual look.

- Poncho style blanket coats look great dressed up.

- Native American and other ethnic inspired printed blanket coats can be accessorized with feather earrings, fringe boots and bags, even big wood bangles.

Anorak Coats

Anoraks are parka and sometimes puffy style coats. They usually have a hood that is sometimes lined with fur. If you really want to ensure that you’ll be warm and toasty when braving the winter wind, an Anorak coat would be your best choice. In my opinion, these coats look best when worn casually or even sporty. Try styling them with jeans and boots.

Trench Coats

Trench style coats have been around for a very long time. I’m sure they aren’t going to go anywhere anytime soon. They come in an array of colors, lengths and fabrics.

- Style your favorite trench with a wide brim, or fedora hat for a 70′s inspired look

- Fur trench coats are not only warm but chic.

-A leather trench coat is a great investment and will last a long time

- Not into trench coats? Opt for it’s petite cousin the Pea coat.

- A trench coat is not only for dressy attire. It can be worn with flare jeans and your favorite sweater.

The look below features a wool belted trench. It’s styled with wide leg jeans, a chunky knit sweater, suede boots and a suede bag. The look is polished off with coordinating  jewelry and a cozy wool scarf.

Here are a few tips on how to achieve the looks you see others wearing while maintaining modesty, and style…

- Use items you already have in your closet:

• Don’t try to “copy” the exact look. Instead, go for similar pieces of the same style. For example: If the look you want to mimic features a pink sweater, don’t fret if you don’t have that exact sweater. Try another sweater of a similar style,  knit and/or color.

- Pay attention to the overall feel and style of the look:

• If the look you want to mimic is a boho chic type of style, go for pieces in that category.

- Note the prints and colors in the desired look and use pieces you have with the same type of print or colors.

- Some looks may not be modest but can be made modest by simply changing certain pieces:

• Swap skinny jeans for straight leg or boot cut
• A mini skirt can be exchanged for a mid or knee length skirt
• Something low cut can be layered over a tee or exchanged for a crew neck

- Don’t be afraid to add your own style.

• Certain parts of a look may or may not be your style. Substitute these pieces for what suits you.

The look below is an example of recreating a look without using the exact pieces. The blogger is wearing loose fitting jeans, a grey sweater, white fur jacket, brown boots and a grey handbag. I’ve recreated the look using pieces that are similar but not exact. I’ve also added my own style by adding a few more accessories. The first thing I noticed was a stark contrast between last spring and this spring’s color  palette. The 2011 color trend seemed to remain consistent throughout the year. It was all about going bold and making a statement with your color. But, in the upcoming season, one can expect to see a softer side of the color wheel.

Pastels take the place of bold and neon colors.

• Robin’s egg blue, lilac, blush pink and soft lemon yellow are among the colors that we’ll see. (Shown above and below)

Muted and Faded Tones- We can expect to see the intensity of the colors turned down.

Neutrals- I believe neutrals are a staple in any wardrobe. They are the go-to colors when you can’t figure out what will coordinate with something.

• A few good neutral pieces to invest in would be a pair of nude pumps or ballet flats, and a couple of neutral colored blouses.
• Neutral accessories will also expand your wardrobe and offer more options when putting a look together.

The look below features a pastel color palette. Nude pumps, a coordinating handbag and jewelry bring the look together while color blocking uses a variety of colors in a modest and and chic way.

When updating your wardrobe, be smart and cost efficient. Mix in your own style and don’t be afraid to try new things. Also, don’t feel pressured by what the “experts” are saying about fashion. Here are a few tips to help you modestly put your best foot forward in a cute chic pair of fringe boots:

• Minimalist approach- Fringe boots are bold pieces on their own. To modestly wear them, tone other accessories down a bit. Try wearing simple jewelry with a small bag.
• Fringe boots look great in earth tones. Try neutral colors like browns, tans and greys. This also helps your look to remain modest.
• Fringe bags are super cute and help to balance out the shoes (as shown below)
• Tribal prints such as African and Native American prints look great with fringe boots. (shown below)
• An oversized sweater with a pair of jeans are simple yet impactful pieces to wear with your favorite pair of fringe boots.
• Try a fur vest with your fringe boots for a naturalistic look.
• Don’t be afraid of short  fringe boots with skirts. (shown below)

Next on my list of faves from 2011 would be the Boho look. This laid back relaxed look can be worn any season. It’s also take very little effort to be made modest.

Finally, my third favorite trend of 2011 is the texture trend. In my opinion, adding texture to your look instantly makes is super chic. If you’re not into patter, a texture piece in a solid color is perfect.

Most of the 2011 fashion trends will transition over to the 2012 season. Patterns, bold colors, and metallics are just a few that will make an encore presentation to the runways. However, a few new trends will be emerging in the upcoming seasons.

Peplums: Runways will see a blast from the past with these fabulous vintage inspired pieces.

Futuristic Prints: Not into vintage? No problem! Futuristic prints will be a hit in the upcoming 2012 season.
