]]> While browsing a few high end online retailers, I came across this super cute bow embellished t-shirt by Lanvin. I decided to try making it myself. All you need is a plain white t-shirt, ribbon or fabric scraps, and a few other supplies. This is a quick and easy project. This could even be made for a little girl by simply using a child sized  t-shirt and decreasing the size of the bows.

]]> In my opinion, denim is one of the most versatile fabrics around. But, if you live in a region where 90 degree temperatures rule the summer season, it isn’t the ideal fabric for keeping cool. A great alternative to denim is chambray.

For a long time, I thought chambray and denim were the same thing. You know, one just being a saucier term for the other. But, after doing a little research, I’ve found the two are quite different.  Although both are made from 100% cotton, chambray is a lighter weight than denim. Thus making it a great alternative for the summer months. Denim gives you more structure and is a little heavier and a bit more rugged. So, if you’re looking for a sturdier piece, chambray may not give it to you.

Here are a few tips on how to style your chambray pieces…

  • Chambray is great for layering. Try styling it over your favorite sleeveless boat-neck top.
  • Style your favorite chambray blouse with dark denim for a great contrast.
  • Add a pop of a vibrant color to instantly liven up your look.
  • When shopping for a chambray pieces, you’re not limited to tops and bottoms. There are tons of accessories available in this material.
  • Another thing to remember when shopping chambray is it doesn’t always come in blue. Keep your eye out for chambray pieces in unique colors.
  • Try styling a chambray blouse over a tiered maxi skirt. Add a pair of flat gladiator sandals and a straw bag and you have a Beachy – Boho Chic look.
  • Not into the fabric? There are several items available in ”chambray blue.”  So, even if you’re not into the fabric itself, you can still wear this cool hue.

I hope these quick tips will help when putting together a modest look with chambray. It’s a great summer fabric because it’s not heavy. Yet, it’s sturdy enough to maintain modesty. ]]> Spring 2012 was all about soft, muted pastel colors. But, as we approach the summer months, it seems more vibrant colors are hitting the runways, stores and fashion blogs alike. Here’s a look at some of the top colors we can expect to see this summer and how to modestly incorporate them into our wardrobes.

 

 

  • Neon has been a really big trend this season. To modestly wear the neon trend, opt for small pops of neon like a small neon clutch or skinny neon belt.
  • Neutral colors help to tone more vibrant hues down. (shown below)
  • Pastels are still a hit this season. Try wearing pastel denim to switch things up a bit.
  • Step out of the expected pastel pinks, lilacs, and baby blues and try mint green.
  • Wearing different hues of the same tone is no longer a fashion faux pas. A monochromatic look is a great way to subtle wear more than one color. (Shown above)
  • Jazz up a black and white ensemble with a pop of your favorite color
  • Floral print is an easy way to add color to your look.

]]> It’s no secret that fashion often repeats itself. So, I wasn’t too surprised when I began to see more and more vintage inspired pieces on runways, fashion blogs and even in the stores. I love vintage inspired fashion. Just about anything from the 40′s to the 60′s and even 70′s has my vote. How do we modestly style a vintage inspired look without looking like we’ve stepped out of a time machine?

  • Vintage jewelry makes a great subtle statement. (Shown below)
  • Add a pair of Cat-eye sunglasses with your look for an instant blast from the past! (Shown below)
  • Peplum pieces bring a little vintage to any look. Try styling a peplum blouse with a pair of cropped pants. (Peplum jacket shown below)
  • A blazer with shoulder pads will not only add structure to your look but add a little 80′s to it as well.
  • Love the 70′s? Go for a Boho Chic look.
  • Boat necks were popular back in the 50′s. Try styling your favorite boat-neck blouse with an a line skirt.
  • A floppy or wide brim hat can add instant vintage appeal to any look. (Shown below)
  • A collar-less tweed or linen jacket/blazer can also add a little vintage appeal to your look.
  • Opt for kitten heels over a pair of stillettos. Not only will this add vintage flare, your feet will thank you as well.

A couple of tips for finding vintage pieces…

  • The thrift store is a the best place to find one of a kind vintage pieces.
  • Check out yard and garage sales in your area.
  • Flea markets, estate sales and auctions are also great places to get vintage pieces.

]]> With the arrival of warmer weather comes the increasing amount of outdoor activities. It can be hard to shop for warm weather clothing. It seems the hotter the temperature gets, the skimpier the clothing in the stores gets. Whether it’s a picnic or an outdoor sports event for the kids, we want to be chic and comfy. But, most importantly we wan to be modest. So, here are a few tips on how to style a comfy and modest outdoor look…

  • When putting your outdoor look together, fabric choices are important. Opt for linen, gauze and cotton blend fabrics. These will help keep you cool.
  • Go for simple pieces such as a loose fitting tee.
  • A small crossbody bag can be great for keeping up with your belongings. (shown below)
  • Wristlets are also great alternatives to large handbags
  • Palazzo pants are ideal when you want to wear a loose fitting pant.
  • Kimono or bat sleeved tunics are loose fitting and allow you to stay cool
