Whether it is changing an old pair of jeans into cute capris or making toys for my dog, I am always looking for ways to be creative. A couple of months ago my husband bought some oil diffusers home. You know the ones with the little bottle of oil that you put the sticks into it to make the room smell good? Noticing one of my bottles was getting low, I thought it would be a great time to create something at home. So, I did a little net surfing and found some really good ideas. I tried this out and found it to work pretty well. I hope it will work just as good for you too.

You will need:

-Baby oil

-Old perfume

-Small mixing bowl

-Something small to stir with

-Small bottles or empty oil diffuser bottles

-Wooden sticks thin enough to be inserted into your bottle but long enough to stick out of the bottle

-Small Funnel

**If you are using an empty diffuser bottle wash it out thoroughly with warm soapy water. This way you get the old scent out and you are able to start with a fresh pallet.**

Here is what you do:

1. Mix ½ perfume and ½ baby oil in the small bowl until you get the scent just right.

2. Use the funnel to pour the mixture into the small bottle

3. Insert the sticks into the bottles and let them soak the oil for about 30 seconds then flip them over so the oiled ends are up.

4. Be sure to post comments on how your custom scents came out.

**If your creative juices are flowing, try decorating the bottles to match the décor in the room.

**No bottles on hand? Go to the dollar store and pick up a few.

**Flip the sticks from time to time to freshen the room.

We are well into the winter season. With it comes wonderful holidays and post card worthy views of the winter wonderland scenes in our neighborhoods. Another thing that comes with winter time is the common cold. It seems that no matter how far advanced in medicine and technology we go, there is still no cure for the common cold.

So, here are a few home remedies I have found to help you fight the sniffles this winter season:

Chicken Soup

Although common recommendation, there is actually some fact behind this age old remedy.

Homeremedypro.com says “Chicken soup is high in a mineral called selenium which can help keep your immune system functioning.”

The warm broth will not only warm you from the inside out, it will also help to sooth your throat.

Orange Juice

Another age old remedy, vitamin C orange juice has, boosts your immune system. Thus giving your body a better ability to fight off the cold. This will shorten the length of time you have the cold.

Orange juice will help you stay hydrated which is key when your body is working to fight off the cold.

Lime

Lime is also rich in vitamin C. Squeeze 1/2 of a lime in a warm glass of water with a teaspoon of honey. Taken daily, this mixture will help to cure your cold.

Steamy Shower

A hot steamy shower will help to unclog your airways. It will also help to get rid of the chill. Do not to get your hair wet as it will make the chill worse.

While looking searching online one day for a good leave-in conditioner, I stumbled across some interesting uses for fabric softener. I tried them out and I thought they were genius. What do you think?
Great Uses for Fabric Softener is a post from: Mrs. BliSs for WomantoAnother.com

Leave-in Conditioner: In an empty spray bottle, mix fabric softener with regular conditioner and fill with water. Shake before each use. Your hair will be so soft. Not to mention it will smell good too. Play around with the amount of conditioner to match it to the texture of your hair. Use a weaker solution for fine hair and a stronger solution for coarse, curly hair.

Cleaning Burned Pots: Pour a little fabric softener in the pot just enough to barely cover the bottom of the pot, add a little water and let it sit over night. Cleaning the burned food off the pot is much easier.

Dusting: To eliminate the static cling that attracts dust to your TV and other plastic surfaces, dab a little fabric softener on your dust rag and wipe. The fabric softener will repel the dust longer.

Remove old wallpaper: Stir 1 cap full liquid softener into 1 quart water and sponge the solution onto the wallpaper. Let it soak in for 20 minutes, then scrape the paper from the wall. If the wallpaper has a water-resistant coating, score it with a wire-bristle brush before treating with the fabric softener solution.

Remove Hard water stains: Dab full-strength liquid fabric softener onto the stains and let it soak for 10 minutes. Then wipe the softener and stain off the glass with a damp cloth and rinse.

Homemade dryer sheets: Moisten an old wash cloth with fabric softener and toss it into the dryer with the load of laundry.

-What To Do-

Mix together two quarts of clean sand, topsoil and peat moss in a bucket. Mix in 1/2 cup charcoal and 1/2 cup perlite.

Stir in just enough water to make the indoor plant soil damp. Place the soil into an old, large roasting pan. Level it out so the soil is not more than four inches deep. If it is, divide it into two pans.

Preheat your oven to 180 F. Stick a potato down deep into the center of the pan. It should be completely covered with soil. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil.

Make a small hole toward the center of the foil, but away from the potato. Place a meat thermometer through the hole and into the soil.

Place the roasting pan of soil into the oven. When the meat thermometer reaches 180 F, set the oven timer for 30 minutes.

Remove the pan and check the potato. If it’s cooked done, that means the heat of the oven passed through the soil successfully. Your indoor plant soil is now sterilized. Allow it to cool before you use it.

Well, it's that time of year again. The arrival of Spring means more than putting your sweaters and boots up and pulling out the light jackets and shoes. It's the time to clean out the stuff that has piled up because it was too cold to take it elsewhere (and we all know how rough this winter was). So here are some great tips to help simplify your spring cleaning.
Simplify Your Spring Cleaning is a post from: Mrs. BliSs for WomantoAnother.com

It may look intimidating but…

Spring cleaning can often be easier said than done. But this doesn’t have to be. If you take it day by day, you will have the whole house done in no time. Try cleaning one room a day. I recently did some major cleaning in our home office. Instead of cleaning the whole thing in one day, I spaced it out over the weekend spending and hour or two at it each day.

Start the big jobs first. Tackle the largest rooms or the ones with the most clutter first. After you get the big stuff out of the way, you’ll feel better. The remaining work won’t be as hard.

Make it fun

If you have family or kids that can help, get them in to help. Order a pizza, turn on some praise music and use that time to not only cleanbut to fellowship and spend time with the ones you love. When it comes to cleaning, the more the merrier!

Start at the top:

When cleaning you should always start at the top. Whether you are starting from the top of a bookshelf or the top of your windows, working your way from the top to bottom is the best way to get your home the cleanest. Spring cleaning your attic first also makes it easier to make room for what you will remove from the bottom floor of your home. If you don’t have an attic, just start at the main rooms in your home and go from there.

Don’t skip:

It may take some time to get it all don’t but don’t cut any corners. When the house is completely clean, the areas that were skipped will stand out even more. The air will even smell better when you get all of the crevices and corners thoroughly cleaned.

Yes, the closets too:

Get the family to gather everything that they don’t wear, or have grown out of. Donate them to a charity. When you get rid of things, you make room for God to bless you with more.

Budget:

When you are on a budget, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on cleaning products. The Dollar Store is a great place to find whatever you need to effectively spring clean your home.

Keeping your carpet clean is the foundation of a clean home. By using the right home remedies, you can extend the life of your carpet and area rugs and avoid spending a lot of money on cleaning services and products.

Vacuum

High traffic areas should be vacuumed every other day and the entire carpet vacuumed once a week. This helps to keep the high traffic areas clean while maintaining the carpet’s fluff.

Home Steam Cleaner

Use a home steam cleaner to clean wet spills before they have time to dry and become set-in stains. Steam clean the entire carpet about twice a year. Doing it your self is a lot cheaper than hiring someone to do it for you. You’ll get some exercise and keep a few bucks in your purse. If you don’t own a home steam cleaner, renting one is another good option.

Avoid Costly Carpet Sprays and Deodorizers

Liquid detergent works good on carpet stains. Mix one teaspoon of detergent with one quart of warm water in a spray bottle for easy application

When cleaning difficult stains. Gently apply the cleaning solution with a soft brush. Work from the outside to the center and use a clean towel to blot up the moisture. Repeat until the towel comes out clean then rinse with clean warm water and blot dry.

Baking Soda…Ah good ol’ baking soda. Another use for it? Yes! Sprinkle baking soda on your carpets before vacuuming to neutralize odors. This is better than spending money on the brand name carpet powders that don’t really work.

For strong odors and pet stains/odors use half and half solution of white vinegar and water. On pet stains, cover the area lightly with aluminum foil until dry to deter pets from resoling the area.

Does it seem like no matter what you do you just can’t get the cooked on grease off of your kitchen stove? I often have this problem. Looking around online I found some ways to get the grease off. I read some of the reviews about these various methods and they were pretty good. I thought I’d share them with you.

-Vinegar-

I have read about the many uses for vinegar but I didn’t think it could be used to clean the stove. To clean your stove with it

1.Pour the vinegar into a spray bottle.

2.Spray it directly onto the greasy area.

3.Let it sit for a few minutes and wipe it off with a washcloth or thick paper towel wet with hot water. Using a plastic scrubber that is non abrasive will help too.

-Baking Soda-

Baking soda has got to have been around for 100 years or more. It can used for so many things. To use it on your stove:

1.Dampen and washcloth or sponge

2.Sprinkle the baking soda on the wet cloth/sponge

3.Scrub the area that you want to clean.

It won’t scratch the surface you are cleaning and it will leave that area really clean.

-Grease-

When I read about using grease clean grease I thought “What?”. I haven’t tried this one personally but when you try it, leave a comment below letting me know how it turned out.

1.Dab a little vegetable oil on to a paper towel.

2.Rub it onto the sticky greasy surface you are cleaning.

3.Finish it off with your regular cleaning solution to remove all of the grease at once.
